Class I Recall of Surgical Staplers Causing Injuries and Death

Last year the US FDA issued a Class I recall, their strongest recall, for Ethicon's Surgical Staplers that were discovered to have a manufacturing defect that caused the staplers to fire improperly, causing significant injuries and even deaths. We investigate the recall and provide the background that prompted same here.
